Biography: Garak's past remains a mystery to everyone onboard Deep Space-9. What is known, is that he was once a high ranking member of the Obsidian Order until he was exiled from Cardassia Prime. He decided to remain on DS-9 as a tailor to be safe from his enemies. While in the Obsidian Order he was made an undercover agent on Romulus posing as a gardener. It was later learned that Enabran Tain, leader of the Obsidian Order, was Garak's father. Officially, Garak was a private merchant, however his talents and intelligence contacts on Cardassia were used by the Starfleet officers on DS-9. When Starfleet abandoned DS-9 at the start of the Dominion War, Garak choose to leave on the USS Defiant, and even earned a position on the bridge during several battles including the one to retake DS-9 and to attack the Chin'toka system. In 2374, Captain Sisko enlisted Garak to falsify evidence of a Dominion invasion of Romulus in order to bring the Romulans into the war on the Federation's side. Near the end of the war, Garak returned to Cardassia with Commander Kira and Odo to help Legate Damar organize a Cardassian resistance group against the Dominion. After seizing the Dominion headquarters with Kira and Damar, who was killed in the process, Garak's exile was finally over and he remained on Cardassia.
