Odo was first found in the Denorios Belt in 2358 and studied by Doctor Mora Pol at the Bajoran Institute
of Science. Odo's name comes from the Cardassian word odo'ital meaning 'nothing.' Odo came to Deep
Space-9 in 2365 while it was still ran by the Cardassians as an unofficial arbitrator for the Bajoran
nationals on the station and made chief of security by Gul Dukat in 2366. When the Cardassians
abandoned DS-9 in 2369 Odo remained as security chief as a member of the Bajoran Militia. In early
2371 Odo finally discovered his origins in the Gamma Quadrant when he learned his species were
changelings, and the founders of the Dominion located in the Omarion Nebula. He also learned that he
was one of a hundred infant changelings sent out to explore the galaxy and return home with this
knowledge. Because his people were the Founders of the Dominion and his loyalties lay with Federation,
it was unusual position for him, even though high-ranking Starfleet officers feared Odo to be a
Dominion spy. When the Dominion declared war on the Federation and captured DS-9, Odo remained on the
station as security chief, and later a member of the new station ruling council with Weyoun and Dukat.
During the war after the Founder's became infected with a deadly virus, unknown to Odo he initially
infected to pass it to the rest of the changelings. In 2374, when he began to experience the disease
Doctor Bashir was able to find a cure from Section 31 director Sloan. When Odo linked with the female
Founder, curing her, it led to the Dominion surrendering and ending the war. Afterwards, Odo left DS-9
to joined the Great Link with his people to cure them, as well as help them understand that peace was
possible with solids.
