Neelix was raised on the Talaxian moon Rinax in orbit of Talax. Neelix was the only survivor of his
family when Rinax was devastated by the metreon cascade attack by the Haakonian Order because at the
time he was on Talax. He worked for two years on an orbital tether maintence team on Talax, two years
as an engineer's assistance aboard a Trabalian freighter, and worked in a mining colony. In 2371,
Neelix was a trader of junk and debris when he first encountered Voyager, but pride himself as a cook.
After helping the Voyager crew deal with the Kazon-Ogla, Neelix decided to stay onboard as a chef,
guide of the Delta Quadrant, and self-appointed morale officer. He converted the mess hall into a
galley to prepare food for the crew and save replicator energy with the hydroponics bay. With his
knowledge of Delta Quadrant species he was made an ambassador by Captain Janeway. In 2374, Neelix was
killed during a shuttle mission into a protomatter nebula by a direct hit from an energy discharge.
Seven of Nine used Borg nanoprobes to bring him back to life. Neelix's shuttle is still stored inside
Voyager's cargo bay. During his time he has made many friends, and even the godfather to Ensign
Wildman's daughter, Naomi.
Ethan Phillips previsiously played Dr. Farek in "Ménage a Troi" - TNG. He also made a cameo
appearance in Star Trek: First Contact as the holographic nightclub maitre d'.
