Biography: James Kirk was born in Iowa on Earth in 2233. Kirk joined Starfleet Academy at age 17 in 2250. While at the Academy, Kirk was the only cadet to beat the no-win Kobayashi Maru scenario. While still in the Academy, Kirk served on the USS Republic NCC-1371 as an ensign. He later served as a teacher's assistant at the Academy. In 2254, Kirk graduated from the Academy as a lieutenant posted on the USS Farragut NCC-1647. At age 30, in 2263 Kirk was promoted to captain of the USS Enterprise NCC-1701. His exploits became required reading at the Academy. After Kirk's first five-year mission ended in 2270 he was promoted to Admiral Chief of Starfleet Operations. He retook command of the refit Enterprise in 2271 during the V'Ger threat and then assumed another five-year mission. Kirk resigned from Starfleet in 2281 and returned in 2284 as a staff instructor at the Academy. In a training mission, Kirk was forced to use the Enterprise to recover the Genesis Device from Khan. Kirk stole the Enterprise from spacedock to go to the Genesis Planet where he ordered it's self-destruction. Afterwards Kirk returned to Earth in a Klingon Bird-of-Prey in 2285 to face charges for stealing and destroying the Enterprise. He was demoted to captain and given command of the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-A. Kirk's final mission as a Starfleet captain was to escort Chancellor Gorkon of the Klingon Empire for peace talks on Earth in 2293. He later escaped imprisonment from Rura Penthe, and with the aid of the USS Excelsior NCC-2000 destroyed a prototype Bird-of-Prey where the Khitomer Conference took place. Later that year after his second retirement, Kirk was an honored guest for the launching of the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-B. In an attempt to rescue the Enterprise, Kirk was believed to of died. It wasn't until 2371 that it was discovered he had been in the nexus for 78 years. While helping Captain Picard stop Tolian Soran, he was killed on Veridian III.
