The Nebula-class starships came into service in the mid-24th-Century as multirole ships, approximately
two-thirds the length of the Galaxy-class. They were built to be
deep-space exploration vessels and served as the design basis for the Galaxy-class built a few years
later. Unlike the Galaxy, the saucer is connected directly attached to the engineering hull with the
nacelles attached above the secondary hull.
The Nebula has a large sensor pod located above the saucer. It can be customized depending upon the mission, such as a weapons pod in times of battle. The Nebula was originally designed to fight in the Cardassian wars in the 2360's, and later used during the Dominion War, as well as the Battle of Wolf 359 against the Borg. In the TNG episode "The Best of Both Worlds, part II" a four-nacelle Nebula can be barely seen in the background. Built by Greg Jein, it served as the prototype to the Nebula-class design. The model was later featured in the episode "Future Imperfect" as the USS Melbourne model in Captain Riker's ready room on the Enterprise-D. The Nebula-class ship was designed by Ed Miarecki, Rick Sternbach, and Mike Okuda. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Related Links: Ships at Wolf 359 (EAS). |
