"The Klingon Empire will never yield."
- LCDR Worf.

The Klingon species is a warrior race that originate from Qo'noS in the Beta Quadrant. They are known throughout the Alpha and Beta Quadrants as a fierce, proud, and traditional culture. Despite some of their actions, they also follow a strict code of honor.

The Klingon Empire was formed some 1,500 years ago by Kahless the Unforgettable. Initially a ruthless empire, the Klingons oftened conquered planets to add to its territory. First contact between the Federation and Klingon Empire was in 2218, a disastrous event which triggered nearly a century of hostilities. The Federation and Klingon Empire were in a type of cold war, much like the United States of America and USSR was in the 20th-Century. In 2293, the Klingon moon Praxis exploded, crippling the Klingon Empire and opening peace talks for the first time with the Federation. Peace continued to grow after the Khitomer Peace Conference, and strengthened even more after the Enterprise-C was lost defending a Klingon outpost from a fleet of attacking Romulan Warbirds.

During the latter half of the 24th-Century peace was at it's all time high, which grew more during the Dominion War. Since then, the Federation has collected a lot of data on Klingon starships. The Klingon fleet operates under the Klingon Defense Force which is responsible for defending the empire's borders against all enemies.

All Klingon starships are designed to use a cloaking device, to make them invisible to all sensors. They are heavily armed with disruptors and torpedoes. Much is unknown about these ships, as the Klingons prefer to have some secrets about their technology.

During the 23rd-Century the original K'T'inga-class attack cruiser was the backbone of the fleet, soon followed by the refitted K'T'inga in the 2270's and B'Rel-class Bird-of-Prey. Currently the Vor'cha, and the flagship class Negh'Var make up the majority of the fleet.

Background information
The Klingon race from TOS were named after Wilber Clingan, a friend of Gene Roddenberry while he served with the LAPD. Their original makeup design consisted of heavy makeup and mustaches. With the first Star Trek movie the makeup had a larger budget and redesigned the look of the Klingon race to it's current appearance. Their change of appearance is not on Federation record as Klingons do not discuss the reason for the physical change.
